Moline, Illinois Helen K. Ortman, 88, of Moline, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, in her home. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church, Moline, with The Reverend Rebecca Wentworth officiating. Private burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Arrowhead Ranch, or the Salvation Army. The former Helen Katherine Rasmus was born December 14, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Timothy and Malinda (Fetterman) Rasmus. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Macomb, Illinois, and was a registered nurse. She married Dr. Charles F. Ortman on June 10, 1940, in Moline. Dr. Ortman, a well-known Moline dentist for many years, died October 13, 1979. Helen gave graciously of her time and talents to many groups in our community, including First Congregational Church, where she was a member for over 50 years, Floral Service Guild of the church, Trinity Medical Center Auxiliary, Elizabeth Jane Brashear Circle of Kings Daughters, Rock Island County Dental Auxiliary, Literary Guild, Davenport Art Museum Guild, and Chapter KT of P.E.O. Sisterhood, where she was a charter member and president. She had also been active in PTA, Girl and Boy Scouts, Sunday School and Meals on Wheels. Along with sharing her time and talents in the community, she enjoyed bridge, gardening, reading, sewing, traveling and vegetable gardening. She was famous for her tomato juice and cookies, and followed her favorite teams, the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Moline High School. She loved her husband and her family, her home on the bluff, and the Monday night neighborhood cocktail parties. Helen is survived by five children and their spouses, Dr. William and Phyllis Ortman of Morrison, Illinois, Linda Ortman, Jan and Richard Parsons, Kent and Connie Ortman, and Ann and Dr. James Millman, all of Moline; 15 grandchildren, Jeff Ortman, Cindy Funston, Carrie Stralow, Bill Fisher, Steve Heald, Angela Parsons, Charles Parsons, Joe Parsons, Laura Parsons, Kate Ortman, Paige Ortman, Susan Miner, J. C. Millman, Greg Millman, and Mary Millman; eight great-grandchildren; and many loving caregivers. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Vera Lauger.
