Helen Gillen

Helen M. Gillen, 94, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, in Hope Creek Care Center, Moline.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Reverend Randy Heckman officiating. Cremation will follow the services at Trimble Crematory, and private burial will be in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour before the services. Friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe immediately following the service. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Heart Association.

The former Helen M. Foye was born April 2, 1920, in Henderson, Knox County, Illinois, the daughter of William and Stella Foye. She lived in Galesburg until 1938, graduating from Galesburg High School, and then moved to Rock Island to be with her mother. She met Roy O. Gillen in 1945 and they were married on August 17, 1946, at Union Congregational Church in Moline.

She worked at F.W. Woolworth in Moline from 1938 until she went to work at International Harvester during WWII in the parts department. She left International Harvester in 1955 when her oldest daughter was born. She was a member of the Rock Island County Home Extension and was treasurer of the Adettes Society of Union Congregational Church from 1986 until 2008. She enjoyed bowling, golf and being with friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Amy Gillen-Garcia and her husband Wally of La Mesa, California, and Julie Miller and her husband Tim of Moline. She was preceded in death by her father in 1932, her mother in 1968, her sister Vi in 1986, her sister Mary in 1997 and her husband Roy in 2006.
