Harold L. Watson

Harold L. Watson, 69, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, November 16, 2018, at his home, surrounded by family.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the VVA Quad Cities Chapter 299 will present military honors. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the VVA Chapter 299 or the Quad Cities Chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders.

Harold was born February 13, 1949, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Frazier and Agnes (McConnell) Watson. He married Bonnie Christine on May 15, 1968, in Milan, Illinois. He was a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran, earning the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge during the Vietnam War.

He proudly owned and operated Watson Excavating Inc., for 40 years, and considered this to be his hobby, along with restoring his '66 Chevy Nova.

Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Bonnie; three children, Shawn (Darci) Watson of Orion, Illinois, Scott Watson of Coal Valley, and Kristi (Zack Vervaecke) Watson of Clearwater, Florida; grandchildren, Alyssa Watson, Dylan Watson, Makayla Vervaecke, and Abby Watson; siblings, Connell (JoAnne) Watson of Milan, Illinois, Ramona (Dick) McMeekan of Viola, Illinois, Karen Burton of Oneida, Illinois, and Bud (Lois) Watson of Sherrard. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Roberta Patterson and Florence Lude.
