Harold K. Johnson, 86, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of San Antonio, Florida, and Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, August 6, 2016, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends are invited to join the family for a funeral luncheon and time of sharing at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the burial. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Harold Karl Johnson was born November 24, 1929, in Moline, to Carl and Bessie (Nelson) Johnson. He served in the U. S. Army, and married Barbara Anne Liedtke on February 20, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa. He was employed by John Deere Plow Planter Works for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He served on the Moline City Council for 12 years, where he chaired the Finance Committee, was Mayor Pro Tem, and instrumental in Moline RiverFest and Ben Butterworth Parkway development. He had been an Elder and Treasurer in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, and a member of the Board of Directors of Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club. He was an avid golfer and sportsman, and followed the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Illini, and Tampa Bay Rays. He loved his kids and grandkids, and attended all of their events and graduations.
Harold is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children and their spouses, Marci Messing of Peoria, Mark and Karen Johnson of Ada, Michigan, and Scott and Michelle Johnson of Estero, Florida; seven grandchildren, Michael Messing and his wife Autumn, Molly Messing and her fiancé Ryan Abbott, Sarah Messing, Derek Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; and a brother and sisters-in-law, Paul and Darlene Johnson of Milan, Illinois, and Marilyn Johnson of Moline. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joseph Messing, and siblings, Judy Smith, Lois Swanson, and Leonard Johnson.
