Harold C. Zwicker, 93, of Preemption, Illinois, long-time Mercer County farmer, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 25, 2013, shortly after arrival at Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013, at Preemption United Methodist Church, Preemption, Illinois, with The Reverend Cindy Rettig officiating. Burial is in Preemption Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the church.
Harold Charles Zwicker was born September 23, 1919, on his family farm in Preemption Township where he lived his entire life, to Reinhold Christian and Louise Charlotte Hartman Zwicker. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II, and married Dorothy Holdsworth on March 10, 1943, in her family farm home near Preemption. He farmed his entire life and was a purebred Polled Hereford breeder, retiring in 1990. He was an active, lifelong member of Preemption United Methodist Church, and was a member of Mercer County Farm Bureau. He had a love and passion for farming and gardening.
Harold is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy; three children and their spouses, Judy and Bob Douglass of Overland Park, Kansas, David and Naomi Zwicker of Aledo, Illinois, and Marilyn and John Lamoreux of Lanark, Illinois; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Lindemann of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by siblings, Alice Rathbun, Dorothy Koerper, and Wilbur Zwicker.
