Hallie "Buttons" Cowart, 67, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, June 16, 2014, in her home.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The former Hallie Rowena Welsch was born April 30, 1947, in Moline, to Harry Raymond and Mettie Corder Welsch. She married Donald Dean Barnett on April 24, 1964, in Davenport, they were later divorced. She married James Frank Cowart on October 31, 1985, in Summerville, South Carolina. Buttons loved to cook. She was a cake decorator, bakery manager, and scratch baker for 40 years, retiring in 2003, and started Grandma Buddy's BBQ in Coal Valley.
She is survived by her husband, James; three sons, Donald R. Barnett and his wife Robin of Atoka, Tennessee, Dean E. Barnett and his wife Melissa of Moline, Illinois, and David E. Barnett and his fiancée Beverly Funderburk of Atoka; seven grandchildren, David Dean, Christopher, Mercedes, Cameron, Brian, Austin, and Tyler Barnett; two former daughters-in-law, Cindy Crom and Amy Barnett; and good friends Eileen Green and Wanda Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Brandon Barnett, and her very best friend, Peggy Bessee.
