Edward Roberts, 98, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, in North Brook Manor, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Private family Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley.
Edward Hugh Roberts was born July 20, 1910, in Sherrard, Illinois, the son of Allen and Mary ?Elizabeth? (Roberts) Roberts. He graduated from Rock Island High School and received his Bachelor?s Degree from Augustana College. He married Frances Lucile Gitt on February 3, 1940, in Rock Island. She died October 1, 2006.
Ed worked as a price analyst for John Deere and as a tour guide after his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, roller-skating, and ice skating. He played harmonica and spoons for many years.
Edward is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Kathryn Roberts of Marion, Iowa; a daughter, Ann A. Roberts of Davenport, Iowa; three grandchildren, Susan Maurice and her husband Steve, of Mt. Vernon, Nicholas Roberts, and Sara Roberts and her fiancé Shamus O?Connell, all of Marion; great-grandchildren, Shannon Roberts and Mukesh and Mackenzie Maurice; a nephew, Stephen Hawes and his wife Kathy and their children, Carolyn and Craig, of Galesburg, Illinois; and a nephew and his wife, Charles and Vickie Sharp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucile, four sisters, and a grandson, Randy Roberts.
