William H. ?Dollar Bill? Mathis, 81, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Trinity, Rock Island.
Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a time of sharing, will be held at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
William Herbert Mathis was born January 20, 1929, in Morrison, Tennessee, the son of William S. and Nellie Childress Mathis. He married Vera Besley on October 11, 1948, in Bessemer, Alabama. He owned and operated Stick Engineering Harley Davidson Sales in Moline, with his sons, from 1977 to 1994.He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vera; three children and their spouses, Rick and Linda Mathis of Menomonee Falls, Wisc., Patsy and Tim Hough of Long Prairie, Minn., and Dan and Sherry Mathis of Moline; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Mathis, and a sister, Nell Hyche, both of Alabama. He was preceded in death by four brothers.
