Leland H. Buckley, 86, of East Moline, Illinois, died Monday, August 25, 2008, in his home.
Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Alan Mothershed officiating. Private interment is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline, or the Arthritis Foundation.
Leland Hamilton Buckley was born May 27, 1922, in Edwardsville, Illinois, the son of Leland Hamilton and Clara (Morgan) Buckley. He graduated from DePauw University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star Medal. He married Barbara Templeton on January 24, 1953, in Evanston, Illinois. He was purchasing agent for American Air Filter for 32 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Congregational Church since 1955, and was a long-time classroom volunteer at Logan Elementary School in Moline.
Leland is survived by his wife, Barbara; three children and their spouses, Stephen and Crystal Buckley of Portland, Oregon, Kendall and Rod Meyer of Mankato, Minnesota, and Reid and Anne Buckley of Orinda, California; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Buckley, Leslie and Evan Meyer, and Alice, Paul, and Jane Buckley; and two nieces, Susan Buckley of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Clara Laing of Rockwall, Texas. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Strawn, and brothers Donald and Milton Buckley.
