Evelyn A. Matzen, 93, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, in her home.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Dayton Corners Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the church.
The former Evelyn Anna Bieber was born November 2, 1917, in Windom, Minnesota, the daughter of John Simon and Melvina Richter Bieber. She married Herman Matzen on February 20, 1935, in Lakefield, Minnesota. He died June 23, 1977. She was employed by Millard Group Janitorial Services for 25 years.
She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Ladies Aid Guild and Warm Hearted Widows, and was a member of War Mothers. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and loved her yard and house and her pets.
Evelyn is survived by three children and their spouses, Darrell and Florien Matzen of Coal Valley, Janice and Robert Jones of Colona, Illinois, and Ronald and June Matzen of Coal Valley; six grandchildren and their spouses, Mike and Kara Matzen, Bonnie Matzen, Tammara and Dean Verbeck, Brian and Candice Jones, Rodney Matzen, and Kenny Matzen; ten great-grandchildren; sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucille Place of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Marlene and Byron Baumgarn of Round Lake, Minnesota; a brother and sisters-in-law, Edward and Millie Bieber and Ida Bieber, all of Lakefield, Minnesota; and a special friend, Angie Caudill of Colona. She was preceded in death by brothers Arnold and Wally Bieber.
