Bertha Grace Johnson, 84, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007, at her home after an extended illness.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements.
Bertha Grace Johnson was born August 2, 1922, in Mt. Sterling, IL to Earl and Flora (Lear) Lashbrook. She retired from Moline School District #40 in 1985, as a custodial maintenance worker for Wilson Jr. High School. Upon retirement, she continued to work part-time at Bicentennial Elementary School for several years.
Bertha was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley. Her family was always her top priority in life. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, working in her flower-vegetable gardens and the companionship of her pets.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Ila L. Bunch of Earlville, Illinois, Vera E. McCreery of Coal Valley, Bertha Maxine and Robert Stanford of Earlville, Diana M. Sears and her companion Steven Hershman of Andover, James H. McNeely of Coal Valley, and Franklin E. Johnson and his fiancée Tina Hopkins of Davenport, Iowa; Grandchildren and their spouses, Meredith "Mickey" L. and Amy Mays, Jr. of Orion, Allison C. and Robert Hogan of Silvis, Kristina M. and Jim Hubly of ¬Kankakee, John C. and Tennille Marks of Sterling, Jeremiah D. and Katy Johnson¬ of Galesburg, Thomas J. Johnson of Rock Island, Megan A. McNeely of Moline, Justin and Anthony Hopkins of Davenport, and Stewart Hopkins, with the U.S. Marine Corps¬ in Japan; Great-Grandchildren, Noah A. and Alexandria L. Mays of Orion, Alexandra M. Marks of Woodstock, Braxten J. Marks of Sterling, Kayden J. and Keenan T. Hubly of ¬Kankakee, Dameon M. Powers and Kayla N. Hogan of Silvis, and Zachary T. Johnson¬ of Davenport; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Richard C. and Violet Lashbrook, Lula Justine Sipes, Alta Maroy Claassen, and Fred M. and Corlene Lashbrook all of Rushville.
She was preceded in life by her parents; brothers ¬Wayne, Robert, Clyde, and George Andrew Lashbrook; sisters, Cora Beatrice Hopkins, Melissa Ruth Wheelhouse and Nina Pauline Fisher; sons, Charles Lynn Johnson and twin infant sons; and grandsons, Robert M. Bunch III and Jeffrey Allen Bunch.
