Glen A. Hallquist, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Donald Jackson and The Reverend Robb McCoy officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church.
Glen Arthur Hallquist was born October 3, 1924, in Moline, the son of Elmer and Nettie Auerochs Hallquist. He married Patricia Jane Logan on June 6, 1948, in Moline. She died October 9, 2008. He graduated from Moline High School in 1943, was an American Legion Award winner, and attended the University of Illinois. He was a Technical Sergeant in the U. S. Army during WW II, and served under General Dwight Eisenhower at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHEAF). He was employed at George Evans Corporation for many years, retiring as Vice President in 1988, and previously worked at Minneapolis-Moline.
Glen was a member of First (now Riverside) United Methodist Church for over 60 years, and was Head Usher for more than 30 years and served on numerous committees. He and his wife, Jane, were UMYF counselors for many years and enjoyed being part of the visitation group called ?The Flock?. He was also a member of Methodist Men, and the American Legion, was given the Life Member Award from PTA, and coached Dad?s Club and Babe Ruth baseball. He was an avid Chicago White Sox fan, and hadn?t missed an Opening Day in over 40 years.
Glen is survived by his children and their spouses, Lindy and John Steeves of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, Laurie and Dale Spriet of Moline, and Tim and Linda Hallquist of Hartland, Wisconsin; and his five grandchildren, of whom he was very proud, Kelly Howes and her husband Mike, Scott Hallquist, Andy Spriet and his fiancée Susan Ostrander, Molly VanDeWege and her husband Jimmy, and Mike Hallquist and his wife Amanda. He was preceded in death by his wife; sisters, Edna Mene, Virginia Hanne, and Kathryn Erwin; and a brother, Elwood Hallquist.
