Gladys Smith

Gladys Smith, 83, of East Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, September 22, 2019, at home.

Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Friday at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should gather in the parking lot of Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe at 10:45 a.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

The former Gladys Jones was born May 15, 1936, in Manchester, England, the daughter of James and Gladys Jones. She married Arthur Smith on August 12, 1968, in Silvis, Illinois. She was a nurse in England before moving to the United States.

She enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV, cooking, and knitting. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Gladys, especially her grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by her beloved husband, Arthur; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Johnson of East Moline; step-children, Mark (Beth) Smith of Boston, Massachusetts, and Kimberly (Forrest) Earwood of Fort Worth, Texas, and their families; grandchildren, Matthew Booth, Sarah and Emily Kyser, and Robbie Johnson; step-grandchildren, Alexandria and Tristan Johnson; and a sister, Olwen Alcott of Manchester, England. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bryan Jones; and a sister, Anne McBride.
