Gevernia Schachel Barnes, 81, of Springfield, Ohio, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died December 30, 2012, in Springfield.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with William Otterness officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
The former Gevernia Mae Lane was born December 29, 1931, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of George and Gladys (Huffman) Lane. She married Earl Schachel, and later married Thomas Barnes.
Gevernia was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport. She enjoyed collecting angels, watching TV (especially the Home Shopping Network), and had a special love for cats. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosann (James) Lundquist of St Paris,OH, Karen Hamilton of Moline, and Sharon Barnes of St Paris; grandchildren; Russell (Lori) Lundquist of Springfield, Christopher (Laura) Lundquist of Springfield, Jennifer (Marc) Jones of St Paris, Ellen Lundquist of St Paris, William (Julia) Otterness of Kansas City, MO, Kelly Otterness of Moline, and David Hanson, Jr. of Moline; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew (Gracie), Rosalee, Alexander, Aaron and Madilynn. She was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Lane, and sisters, Geneva Brown and Dorothy Eldridge.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Essex of Springfield Nursing Home and to the ICU unit of Springfield Region Medical Center for the wonderful care and kindness they provided.
