Gerardo Barbosa-Molina, also known as “Marin” in the soccer world, was born May 19, 1948, in Guanajuato, Mexico, one of 14 children of Agustin Barbosa and Carmen Molina. He married Esperanza Leon on December 24, 1979, in Guanajuato, Mexico. He worked at Blackhawk Foundry for over 30 years.
Marin loved to play soccer in his younger years, and that love of soccer passed on to his son, Augie, and grandson, Christopher, who both play(ed) soccer at Moline High School and San Nicolas. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Gerardo. He will always be remembered as a selfless, hard-working, and dedicated family man who did everything in his power for his parents and siblings growing up, and later for his wife, children and grandchildren.
Gerardo is survived by his beloved wife of over 41-years, Esperanza; two children, Carmen (Juan) Lopez of Moline, and Augustin “Augie” Barbosa of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Christopher and Jymena Lopez; his mother, Carmen Molina de Barbosa of Mexico; and 12 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
Gerardo’s service will be livestreamed and archived on his obituary page at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
