Seaton, Illinois Services for Gerald C. "Jerry" Melton, 76, of Seaton, Illinois, well-known Mercer County farmer, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Center Presbyterian Church, Seaton. Burial is in Candor Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family. Jerry died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in Community Medical Center, Monmouth, Illinois. He was born December 19, 1926, in Warren County, Illinois, the son of Ora and Minnie (Bryant) Melton. He served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater. He married Virginia Boock on December 9, 1946, in Little York, Illinois. Jerry farmed in Mercer County since 1953, and previously farmed in Warren County for five years. He was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, and was associated with Reiser-Trimble Ambulance and Trimble Funeral Homes for several years. He was a director of Mercer County Farm Bureau for many years, a member and past Elder of Center Presbyterian Church, past Director and Chairman of the Board of Mer-Roc FS, past president of the Seaton Community Club, past Trustee of the Seaton Fire District, and a member of American Legion Post #121, Aledo, and Aledo Masonic Lodge #252, formerly Charity Masonic Lodge of Seaton. His family and farming were his life. Jerry is survived by his wife, Virginia; children and their spouses, Gary and Kathy Sue Melton of Seaton, Susan Moore of Eldridge, Iowa, and Kathy and Ken Reinhardt of Seaton; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dwight and Jennifer Melton, Brenda Melton, Darren and Rachel Melton, Jim and Colleen Link, Erin Link, Kevin Moore, Daniel and Beth Reinhardt, and Joanna and Ted Anderson; eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Brianna, Collin and Gage Melton, Matthew and Tianna Sedam, Jacob Melton, and Skyler Link; and a brother and four sisters and their spouses, Murl Melton of Little York, Lelia Olson of Seaton, Mary and Deen Lincoln of Avon, Illinois, Dorothy Miller of Cedar Vale, Kansas, and Sarah and Ed Burns of Monmouth; a sister-in-law, Helen Melton of Little York; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter-in-law, Jenny Lynd Melton, and a brother, Herbert "Dutch" Melton.
