George S. Sheats, Sr.

Aledo, Illinois George Sheats Sr., 79, of Aledo, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Graveside services for family members will be held at Aledo Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Mr. Sheats may be sent to the Aledo VFW. Arrangements are by Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. George Smith Sheats Sr. was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Davenport, son of Archer and Olga Zude Sheats. He married Evelyn Mae Willits Jan. 22, 1944, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2001. Mr. Sheats served his country during World War II as an infantryman in the U.S. Army in Germany. He farmed most of his life on the family farm in Perryton Township in Mercer County, Ill. Mr. Sheats was a 50-year Master Mason in Aledo Lodge 252. He will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. Mr. Sheats' survivors include a son, George Sheats Jr. and his companion, Karen Mason, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Carolyn Wedean, Atlanta, Ga; and two grandchildren, Kristin and Kenton Wedean, Atlanta.
