George M. Barlow, 83, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, died Monday, September 24, 2007, in his home surrounded by his family.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Mark Gehrke officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer?s Association.

George Melville Barlow was born May 2, 1924, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Harry and Pearl (Clark) Barlow. He married Veryl Hagy Jones on June 18, 1948, in Bramwell, West Virginia. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was a millwright at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 37 years, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement, the couple lived in Rio Rancho until returning to Moline in 2005.

George enjoyed playing poker at the casinos and playing pool with his son and grandson. He was second in his age group in the New Mexico Senior Olympics in the 8-ball pool tournament.
He loved taking trips on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle, traveling to all four corners of the United States including Alaska. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Region Antique Automobile Club of America and enjoyed his antique cars, a 1940 and a 1936 Ford.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Veryl; three children and their spouses, George Harry and Debbie Barlow of Moline, Susan C. and Dale Smith of Coal Valley, and Ann S. and Randy Oldenburg of Moline; seven grandchildren, Michael Barlow and his wife Betty, Jennifer Barlow, Alice Ann Smith, Patrick Smith, Brady Barlow, Tyler Barlow, and Reece Oldenburg; three step-grandchildren, Katie Leihsing and her husband Andy, Kelly Moore and her husband Joe, and Maggie Rummery; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Vera Scott of Gloucester Point, Virginia, and Laura Morse of Bluefield, West Virginia.
