Gary L. Bonta

Gary L. Bonta, 70, of East Moline, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2019, at his home in Park Vista.

Burial was Tuesday at Friedens Cemetery, Port Byron, Illinois. A celebration of life gathering will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Park Vista Pub in the Independent Building. Memorials to the family will be donated to Saving the Perfect Stranger to help Quad City homeless and to the Spay and Neuter program in Victoria, Texas.

Gary was born July 23, 1948, in Trenton, Missouri, to Corwin and Mary Cornwell Bonta. He married Cathy Weller on June 1, 1974, in Port Byron. He graduated from UTHS in 1966 and was a radioman in the US Navy for four years. He was a locomotive engineer for 44 years for the Rock Island Lines and Katy Railroad, and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 2010. He was of the Bahà'ί Faith.

Gary is survived by his wife, Cathy; a nephew, T. Jarrod Bonta and his wife Al; and a cousin, Ron Cornwell and his wife Joyce. He met his six half-siblings and cousins with open arms in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Bonta.
