Moline, Illinois

Gaylen R. “Gaye” Woehr, 80, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, with her loving family by her side singing “Amazing Grace”.

Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, in the mausoleum at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.  The family invites friends to continue the celebration of Gaye’s life with a luncheon immediately following from Noon until 1:00 p.m. at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe, in the lower level at 701 12th Street, Moline.  Memorials may be made to Youth Hope in Moline.

Gaylen Rae Woehr was born August 3, 1942, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the daughter of William Ainley and Evelyn Elizabeth (Hultgren) Woehr.  She graduated from Moline High School in 1960 and went on to attend Illinois State University before graduating from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1964.

She had a life filled with service to others in the nursing profession, beginning her career in elder care in Minnesota.  She worked as a Registered Nurse for Genesis Visiting Nurses, where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 2007.  After retirement, she volunteered at Good Samaritan Free Clinic.

She had a very strong faith and enjoyed singing for Jesus.  She worshipped and served her whole life.  Family was the most important thing to Gaye, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Gaye is survived by three children, Matthew Hamernick of Minnesota, Kimlyn (Michael) Meyer of Moline, and Angela (Ryan) Beintema of Bettendorf, Iowa; four loving grandchildren, Karilyn Meyer, and Hannah, Abigail and Kaleb Beintema; her sister, Pamela (Jerry) Orrison of Peoria; sister-in-law, Deborah Woehr of Arkansas; and her best friends from nursing school, Kay Retzel and Ginny Dusek.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Woehr.
