Frank S. Cottrell, Jr., 70, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at UnityPoint Health ? Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois, following a long illness.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Private entombment will be in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Moline Public Library or Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley, Illinois.
Frank Stewart Cottrell was born July 11, 1942, in Boulder, Colorado, to Frank and Dorris Payne Cottrell. He married Janet Goode on January 8, 1966, in Galesburg, Illinois. She survives him.
He graduated from East Denver High School, Denver, Colorado in 1960. He received his BA degree from Knox College in 1964, and JD degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1966. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Frank joined the Deere & Company law department in 1966. He worked on virtually every aspect of Deere's legal work, including its foreign operations and litigation. He served for 33 years, finishing his career as Corporate Secretary, General Counsel and Senior Vice President of the company. "They were the happiest years of my life," he said.
He served on the board of directors of MidAmerican Energy, Knox College, Arrowhead Ranch and the William Butterworth Trust. He coached Moline kids' soccer for over 15 years.
Survivors include wife Janet; children and spouses, Kristin and Peter Pardubsky of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jeffrey and Amber Cottrell of LeClaire, Iowa, and Steven and Allison Cottrell of Moline; and grandchildren, Claire, Porter, Will, Arra, Gavin and Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sisters in infancy.
