Frank R. Mendoza, 86 of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Rosewood Care Center, Moline, Illinois. Services are Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be left for St. Mary?s or Christ the King Catholic Churches for masses in Frank?s name.
Frank was born on January 27, 1926 in Morris, Illinois to Jose A. & Maria (Sanchez) Mendoza. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Frank married Carolina Gutierrez on October 27, 1945. She preceded him in death on January 21, 1988.
Frank retired from Western Structural Company, Moline in January of 1988 after 32 years of service. He had also previously worked with Republic Steel.
Frank was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island and currently a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling in earlier years and many other sports. He enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and had played for the Quad City Mohawks, an early farm team for the Bears.
Those left to cherish Frank?s memory include his children and spouses: Diana Cook and companion, Wendell Carver of Moline; Frank & Michelle Mendoza, Jr. of Morrison; John Mendoza of Creve Coeur, MO and Richard & Terri Mendoza of Moline; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings and spouses: Lily & Joe Barroso and Rachel Carrillo all of Moline and Fred & Mickie Mendoza of Hammond, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Mike, Henry and Roy Mendoza and a sister, Esther Lopez.
