Frances C. Atwell, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, May 20, 2002, in Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. The Reverend Thomas O. Peterson will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
The former Frances Carolyn Almquist was born August 17, 1914, in Moline, the daughter of Carl W. and Elsa (Francen) Almquist. She married Claude C. "Chub" Atwell Sr. on September 5, 1936, in Moline. He died January 25, 1969. She was employed as a waitress at Short Hills Country Club for many years, retiring in 1971, and had previously been employed by the City of Moline Water Department. She was a member of the Sarah Circle at Salem Lutheran Church, a 50 year member of the Coal Valley Eastern Star, and a former member of the Moline Lady Vikings, and had volunteered at Trinity Hospital for 12 years. Mrs. Atwell loved her family.
Frances is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Claudette and Don Swensson of Moline and Dianne Orendorff and friend Dick Johnson of Coal Valley; a step-son and his wife, Maurice and Betty Atwell of Annawan, Illinois; three grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Holdorf, Heather and Michael Locander, and Greg and Krista Orendorff; seven step-grandchildren, Calvin, Kenneth, Maurice L., and Tim Atwell, Christine Hockstetter, Noreen White, and Tammy Talbot; one great-grandchild, 17 step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Arlene Almquist of Orion, Illinois. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karla Swensson Brandt; a step-son, Claude Atwell Jr., her husband, and her parents.
