Florence M. Axne

Florence M. Axne, 88, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Monday, February 20, 2012, in Heritage Health, Chillicothe, Illinois.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to Ambulance Rescue 33 in Chillicothe. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is assisting the family.

The former Florence Mary Easley was born February 3, 1924, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Warren Davis and Claire L. (Coffin) Easley. She married Glenn O. Axne on August 4, 1945, in Gilmore, Iowa. He died April 7, 2003.

Florence graduated from Bradgate High School in 1943. She then worked for a Dr. Giddens, who was instrumental in her obtaining her LPN license. She also wrote articles for the Humboldt newspaper. She worked in the payroll department at Bendix Corporation in Davenport, Iowa. She also worked at the Mercy and Osteopathic Hospitals in Davenport, and for Dr. Campbell.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, where she was involved in Mary Martha League, taught Sunday school and Bible School, did volunteer work, and served as a secretary. She and her husband, Glenn, both had a deep religious devotion to their church and church community. She was also active in 4-H for 12 years.

She enjoyed in her leisure time crocheting and gardening. She loved being with family and all of her grandkids.

Florence is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dorinda Axne of Peoria, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Dale Bender of Atlanta, Illinois; grandchildren, John and Cindy Axne of West Des Moines, Iowa, Joseph and Julie Axne of Aurora, Colorado, Eric Bender and Ashley Phelps of Atlanta, Beth Mullican of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Robyn and Tim White of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Josette, Jordan, Gunnar, and Rafe Axne, Nicole Bender, Cody, Egli, and Dylan Bender; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jazmyn Fitz and Hunter Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Walter Easley.
