Florence K. DeDoncker, 85, loving wife and devoted mother, entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, Illinois
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, with The Reverend Donald Levitt officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is one hour before the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 3205 60th Street, Moline, or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
The former Florence Kathryn Smelkowski was born on November 9, 1927, in Clinton, Indiana, to Andrew and Rose (Pietroski) Smelkowski. She married Leroy F. DeDoncker on February 2, 1947, in Clinton. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2011.
Florence retired from the East Moline Post Office and also worked briefly at Seaford Clothing and the old Buddy L plant. She was a founding member of Christ the King Church where she served as funeral acolyte coordinator. She considered her children and grandchildren her greatest accomplishment; she loved them with all her heart and unconditionally.
Left to honor her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharon (Tolmie) DeDoncker and their son, Tim, all of Rockford, Illinois; her daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Henry Hicks of Moline and their son, Seth and fiancé Dara Strickland of University City, Missouri; brother-in-law, Robert Hoste of Colona, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sisters, Clara Hoste, Alice Hoste, Frances Schumacher and Helen Barzyk.
