Fern W. Lyon, 90, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Moline, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, in Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is 10 a.m. Monday in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Masonic Health Facility.

The former Fern Anna Wilmerton was born April 11, 1914, in Galena, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Laura (Pritchard) Wilmerton. She married Eugene Samuelson in 1935. She married William R. Lyon on December 24, 1958, in Moline. He died September 14, 1996. She was employed in the advertising department of Deere and Company for 21 years, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, and a former member of Congregator and Mary Martha-Floral Guild of the church, Rock Island County Historical Society, Deere and Company Lady Retirees, Church Women United, where she chaired style shows, Moline Women?s Club, Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society, Plus 60 Club, Putnam Museum, and Catfish Jazz Society. She enjoyed making quilts for bazaars and benefits, and making baby quilts for Genesis East, Bethany Home, and the Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Fern is survived by two children and their spouses, Muriel and Ray Voss of Bettendorf, and Robert and Beverly Samuelson of Boca Raton, Florida; eight grandchildren, Michael Asplund, Shelley Trunnell, Kim VonMotz, Laurie Sloan, Kathy Campos, Kenneth Samuelson, Lawrence Samuelson, and Steven Asplund; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a sister, Irene Anderson.
