Fern I. Gibb, 98, of East Dundee, Illinois, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014, in Highland Oaks Nursing Home, Elgin, Illinois.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, followed by a luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Moline, where she was a member.

The former Fern Isabelle Lewis was born June 9, 1916, in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Trace and Lena (Jones) Lewis. She married Bryce Curtis Gibb on November 28, 1940, in Lancaster, Missouri. He died February 18, 2008.

She worked for Sears Roebuck Company for 25 years, retiring as divisional manger in 1975. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She also liked volunteering, and after retirement spent her Tuesdays at Trinity Hospital helping in the patient surgery waiting area.

Fern is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Thomas Gawel of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Gibb of Dubuque, Iowa; grandchildren, Cathie Cissne, Julie Mecham, Tracey Underwood, and Thomas B. Gawel; great-grandchildren, Ashley Valentin, Mackenzie and Kyle Cissne, Nathan, Evan, and Carly Mecham, and Henry Gawel; a sister, Mary Lou Ecker of Moline; and a brother, Dwight Lewis of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronald Gibb; a brother, Ralph Lewis; and a sister, Faye Waters.
