Delores Spires, 77, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Milan, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at First Assembly of God Church, Bettendorf. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Girls Softball League. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center is assisting the family.
The former Delores Faye Asay was born February 1, 1933, in Davenport, the daughter of Raymond Sr. and Inza Asay. She married Guy Bowser, Sr. She later married Fred Thurston Spires, Sr. on October 20, 1979, in Davenport.
Delores worked for Hardee?s in Moline and Milan, Illinois, as a bookkeeper and breakfast supervisor for 30 years, retiring in 2006. She previously worked for Ralston Purina in Davenport.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Davenport. She coached in the Rock Island Girls Softball League for many years. She was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Cubs, Bulls, Bears, and Hawkeyes. She enjoyed figure skating, crocheting, ceramics, bingo, and cards. Her proudest accomplishment was her family, as she was a good mother, wife, grandmother, and friend.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Fred Spires, Sr. of Moline; children and their spouses, Guy Jr. and Carol Bowser of Sidney, Ohio, Dale Bowser of Milan, Ron Bowser and Steve Pinkerton of Topeka, Kansas, David Bowser of Pueblo, Colorado, Janet Bowser of East Moline, Terry Bowser of Sparta, Wisconsin, Donna and George Nesbitt of Rock Island, Illinois, and Kim Bowser of Milan; step-children, Fred Jr. and Suzanne Spires of Cherry, Illinois, Mike and Lela Spires of Fairfield, Texas, Terry Mills of Moline, Helen and Roland Karn of Moline, and Lois Spires of Rock Island; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Betty and Chuck Armstrong of East Moline. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
