Donald Cleary, 75, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, December 10, 2010, in Pathway Hospice at Trinity Bettendorf.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Jim DeBisschop officiating. Visitation is 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post 246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice, which gave such wonderful care to Don and his family.
Donald Francis Cleary was born April 19, 1935, in Petersville, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Luella (Costello) Cleary. He married Doris Faso on August 23, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a truck driver for Moline Consumers for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.
Don was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, where he served on the church board, the Milan American Legion Post 569, the Sioux Falls VFW, South Dakota, and he served on the Coal Valley Village Board for over ten years. He was also a member of the St. Patrick?s Day Society.
He enjoyed car shows, buying and selling classic cars, shuffleboard, and was a NASCAR and White Sox fan.
Don is survived by his wife, Doris Cleary of Coal Valley; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Cleary, Michael and Rhonda Cleary, and Patrick and Lorie Cleary, all of Moline; a daughter, Kathleen Cleary of Peoria, Illinois; grandsons, Adam and Matthew Cleary; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ruth and Randall Dickey of Charlotte, Iowa, Darlene Soenksen of Clinton, Iowa, and Carol and Johnny Kash of Charlotte.
