Esther Collins, 93, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 22, 2014 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, assisted the family locally.

Esther was born in Thor, IA on June 28, 1921 to Solomon and Marie (Seland) Peterson. Her early years were spent in Vincent and Eagle Grove. In 1940 she married Jack Collins at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. She was involved in retail sales, selling furniture in downtown Fort Dodge and also worked at the Boston Store for many years. She moved to Silvis, IL in 2012 to be near her son.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Eastern Star. She enjoyed card club with her friends, and loved having her family gather for holidays and special events. She will be sadly missed by all.

Survivors include her sons, Jim (Judy) of Hot Springs Village, AK, and Bill (Debbie) of East Moline, IL; 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.J. Jack Collins; her parents; her three sisters, Jennie, Judy and Mabel; and a great-grandchild, Faith.
