Emily Harper Manis, 84, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline, died, Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Silver Cross Nursing Center at Friendship Manor, Rock Island Services are 11:00 AM, Wednesday, at First Congregational Church, Moline, where she was a member. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial of Cremains will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorial Donations may be given to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Emily Anne Harper was born January 17, 1920 in Moline, the daughter of J. Franklin and Lucy C. (Ainsworth) Harper. She graduated from Moline High School where she was president of the class of 1938. She attended Oberlin College and graduated from the University of Colorado. Emily married Roy B. Manis on December 22, 1946 in Moline, he died January 28, 1981. Emily was employed as a Air Traffic Controller in Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois during World War II, later she was employed as a Elementary School Librarian. Emily is a P.E.O. past president, a PTA life member, former church librarian, and a member of the Rock Island County Historical Society. She enjoyed her family vacations at Michilinda, at one time was the bridge high score holder at the White Lakes Yacht Club, and loved her children and grandchildren like know one other could. Emily is survived by her daughter, Lucy Manis, East Moline, son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mardean Manis, Palatine, IL, daughter-in-law, Laurie Johnson-Manis, Rock Island, sister, Barbara Thompson, Traverse City, MI, brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Harper, Rock Island, and five grandchildren, Charles Manis, Geoffrey Manis, Kristin and Anthony Isla, Daniel Manis, and Kelly Manis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Michael Manis.
