Moline, Illinois Elizabeth Scranton Phillips, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, May 26, 2003, in her home. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church, Payson, Illinois. Burial is in Payson New Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, and Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Payson church. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, or Payson New Cemetery. The former Elizabeth Mary Smith was born May 3, 1916, in Greenfield, Illinois, the daughter of K. T. and Mary (Metcalf) Smith. She attended McMurray College, Jacksonville. She married J. Melvin Scranton on June 3, 1939, in Greenfield. He died March 2, 1971. She later married Louis Koehr in Belleville, Illinois, and he died in 1982. She married Narel Phillips in 1987 in Moline, and he died May 22, 1993. She lived in Belleville, Illinois, from 1959 until moving to Moline in 1995. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, United Methodist Women of the church, and Daughters of the American Revolution in Cahokia, Illinois. She had been very active in the Women's Associations of her churches in Belleville and Taylorville. She played golf from the age of 10 to the age of 83, was an accomplished stained glass artist, and was active in the Postmark Collectors Club. She enjoyed stamp collecting, quilting, and watching birds and yard animals, and especially enjoyed spending winters in Arizona for the past 25 years. Elizabeth is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Beverly Scranton of Moline; three grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Rob and Robyn Scranton of Moline, Paul and Emily Scranton of Bettendorf, Iowa, and J. Scranton of Minneapolis; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth (Ellie) Scranton of Bettendorf; two sisters-in-law, Bernadine Smith of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Dorothy Scranton of Payson; and nieces and nephews, Lynda Scranton Kraemer of Lake Bluff, Illinois, Robert Smith of Naperville, Illinois, Charles Smith of St. Charles, Illinois, and Colette Smith of Elmhurst, Illinois. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Smith, a brother-in-law, Bus Scranton, and a nephew, Terry Scranton.
