Elizabeth Swanson Olson, 95, of Moline, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in her home.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time, and a luncheon will follow. Cremation will take place after the funeral at Trimble Crematory, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery, Woodhull, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or First United Presbyterian Church of Moline or United Church of Woodhull.
The former Elizabeth Swanson was born April 19, 1922, in Oneida, Knox County, Illinois, to George and Anna Peterson Swanson. She attended schools in Oneida and the Woodhull area and graduated from Oneida High School in 1940. She attended Western Illinois University and Moline Business College. Before marriage, she worked in the Tri City Area and was secretary to the plant manager for John Deere Planter Works. She married Charles Lester Olson on January 19, 1946, in Oneida. They farmed in Ontario Township for over fifty years. She was a farmer's wife and ran the books for the farm. The couple moved to Moline in 1994, and her husband died February 18, 2008.
She was formerly a member of the United Church of Woodhull and then the First United Presbyterian Church of Moline and their Dorcas Circle, and a member of PEO Chapter L, Woodhull. Beth inspired her family and friends with her genuine love, strength, faith and dedication in all that she did. She immensely enjoyed her family and making their house a true home. She will be missed by all.
Elizabeth is survived by three children, Jean Slott of Oswego, Illinois, Jay Olson of LeClaire, Iowa, and Joan Kelley and her husband John of Palatine, Illinois; six grandchildren, Jason Slott, Amy Slott, Tyler Olson and his wife Allison, Megan Kelley, Andrew Kelley, and Mitchell Kelley; and a great-granddaughter, Quinn Elizabeth Olson. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jeffrey Olson; a grandson, William Kelley; a son-in-law, Michael Slott; and three brothers, Rear Admiral (Navy) Leroy Swanson, Vernon Swanson, and Hubert Swanson.
