Elizabeth J. ‘Betty’ Benker, 90, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died Friday, August 3, 2012, at Lighthouse Point of Silvis, Illinois.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment will follow in Greenview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, East Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Jane Fron was born March 1, 1922, in East Moline, the daughter of Kazmir and Jennie Wichrowski Fron. She married Leroy L. Benker on June 20, 1943, in Moline. He died January 20, 2000. She was and administrative officer for the General Thomas J. Rodman Lab and the Personnel Office at the Rock Island Arsenal for 22 years, retiring in 1976. She had been a member of Blackhawk Chapter #338 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Moline Activity Center, Duck Creek and Indian Bluff Ladies Golf Leagues and Quad City Times Plus 60 Club, and was very active in Senior Olympics. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and golf, reading, and gardening.

Betty is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rita Benker of Rock Island; two grandchildren, Julie C. Wadle and her husband Quentin of LaPorte, Indiana, and Scott R. Benker and his fiancé Steph Kirk of Bellingham, Washington; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Kuberski of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Leroy J. Benker; a granddaughter; a sister, Eva Perry; brothers, John and Adam Fron; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Kuberski.
