East Moline, Illinois Services for Edwin V. Holmgren, 87, of East Moline, are 10 a.m. Thursday at Moline Gospel Temple. The Reverend Noel Wilcox will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to church. Mr. Holmgren died Sunday, December 23, 2001, in Parkview Health Care Center, East Moline. Edwin Valdemar Holmgren was born March 3, 1914, in Moline, the son of Anselm and Sadie (Anderson) Holmgren. He married Betty John on June 23, 1939, in Moline. He was a welder at John Deere Planter Works, Moline, for 29 years, retiring in 1977, and then worked part-time at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, for ten years. Eddie was an active member of Moline Gospel Temple for 70 years, after joining the church at the age of 17. He was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years, and was named an honorary deacon after serving as a active deacon for many years. He particularly enjoyed calling on church members and giving communion to them as a deacon. He loved music and sang in the church choir and as a soloist for many years. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and a son, John, of Bettendorf, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
