Edward Ellis Nelson

Joy, Illinois Edward Ellis Nelson, 89, of Joy died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, with the Reverend Richard Bishop officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the New Boston Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Edward Nelson Memorial Fund. Edward Ellis was born on January 1, 1913 to Nels and Mary Ora (Myers) Nelson. He was previously married to Mary Compas. Ed retired 1n 1977 from John Deere Harvester, East Moline after 19 years of service. He had also worked for the Minneapolis - Moline Company and farmed in Mercer county. He was a member of the UAW, East Moline. Ed enjoyed playing cards and dancing, especially polka. He was a loving father and grandfather. Ed is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law; Elaine and Kenneth Dixon of Joy and Betty and Darrell Thompson of Viola; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur ''Sonny'' and Carol Nelson of Montour, IA, Stanley ''Twerp'' and Pam Nelson of Seaton and Thomas Nelson of Joy; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and his best friend for 20 years, Madge Britton of Joy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald E. ''Butch'' Nelson; a sister, Irene Nelson and brothers, Lester, Lloyd, Earl and Carl Nelson.
