Edward B. “Bud” Ackley

January 28, 1924 — August 26, 2005

Edward B. “Bud” Ackley, 81, of Coal Valley, died Friday, August 26, 2005, in the Emergency Room at Trinity Medical Center, Moline.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, will conduct Masonic funeral services at 7 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Association.

Edward Bryson Ackley, Jr., was born January 28, 1924, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Edward B. and Helen (McGregor) Ackley. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II. He married Eleanor L. Paysen on February 23, 1946, in Davenport. Bud was an experimental mechanic at John Deere Plow and Planter Works for 33 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Moline American Legion Post #246, Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, and Rock Island Voiture 40 & 8. He was one of the founders and first coaches of Moline Little League and coached both Little League and Babe Ruth League for several years. He enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and spedning time with his family.

Bud is survived by his wife Eleanor; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William E. and Gloria Ackley of Moline, and Donald J. Ackley of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Nicholas and Michael Ackley; two step-granddaughters, Gina Bundy and Felicia VanHyfte; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anne M. Close of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
