Dorothy E. Sullens, 96, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, in Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, Illinois
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with a short memorial service following at 2 p.m. Following cremation, a graveside service and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The former Dorothy Elizabeth Garrett was born September 7, 1912, in Kinmundy, the daughter of Theodore and Icy (Doolen) Garrett. She married Lewie V. Sullens on June 15, 1929, in Salem, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1974.
Dorothy was employed for 19 years at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, Urbana, attended Hope United Church of Christ, Moline, and was a member of the Moline Senior Citizens Group.
Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Gereldine Sullens of Coal Valley; granddaughters and their husbands, Terry and Rick Mathias, Bobbie and Earl Fox, and Kim and Vern Bein, all of Coal Valley; great-granddaughters, Angela Fox of Bettendorf, Iowa, Nicole Pearson and her husband Mark of Omaha, Nebraska, and Lindsey Mathias of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lyla Pearson of Omaha. She was preceded in death by an infant son, five sisters, and two brothers.
