Raymond E. DeMink, Jr., 78, of Moline, Illinois, a decorated Korean War Veteran, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in his home.
Services are 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, and 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, with Fr. Doug Grandon officiating. Burial is in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with a Christian Wake Service at 4 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to Preserving the Treasures at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Raymond Edward DeMink, Jr. was born September 25, 1930, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Raymond E. and Katherine (Frank) DeMink. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, earning a Korean Service Medal with a bronze star, a Purple Heart, and a Combat Infantry Badge. He married Dorothy Wilson on September 11, 1954, in Milan, Illinois. He was a welder at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 29 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, and Moline VFW Post #2153. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Ray is survived by his wife, Dorothy; seven children and their spouses, Anna and Fred Erickson of Silvis, Illinois, Leon and Laure DeMink of Moline, Raymond D. and Molly DeMink of Rock Island, Illinois, Christopher and Jean DeMink of Sherrard, Illinois, Theresa Timmerman of Moline, James Matthew and Cindy DeMink of Colona, Illinois, and Paul and Tara DeMink of Aurora, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Stacia and Matt Wilhelm, Amy and Brad Swanson, Kendra Erickson and Joey Sowell, Jacquelyn, Christian, Nicholas, Jessica, Luke and Violet DeMink, Thomas and Jonathan Timmerman, and Matthew, Garrett, and Nolan DeMink; five great-grandchildren; and siblings and their spouses, Anna June and Russell Fanning of Moline, Evalena Handley of Davenport, Catherine Gosa of Rapids City, Illinois, Ellen Louise DeMink of Moline, Maureen and Dale Johnston of Moline, and Phillip and Christine DeMink of Tipp City, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel DeMink, and a grandson, William DeMink.
