Kenneth E. Brandt, 80, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, October 31, 2008, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, and 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Colona. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. A wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
Kenneth Eugene Brandt was born May 5, 1928, in Moline, the son of Willis and Marjorie Brandt. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman during WW II. He married Helen Humphries, and later married Leona DeVooght Coopman in 1978. He was a central office technician for Illinois Bell Telephone Company and Ameritech, for 44 years, retiring in 1992.
Kenny was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Colona, and Geneseo Country Club. He had been active in the Masonic Fraternity, serving, among many other offices, as Master of Doric Lodge #319, AF&AM, and Commander-in-Chief of the Moline Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline. He received the 33rd Degree in 1983 in Milwaukee. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed crocheting.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Lee; step-children and their spouses, Pete and Carol Coopman of Palmer Lake, Colorado, Tom and Sheri Coopman of Trabuco Canyon, California, Paula and Brad Greeno of Coal Valley, Joseph and Chris Coopman of Glendale, Arizona, and Jim Coopman of Chicago; 12 grandchildren, Mindy and Nate Brandt, Adam and Leah Mathis, Tony, Greg, Nic, Taylor, and Sarah Coopman, Jamie Deppe, Jeffery Brandt and Avery Sieh; five great-grandchildren, Honesty, Maddie, Addie, Pressley and Deacon; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Gene DeVilder of East Moline; and a half-sister, Patty Grant of California. He was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Jeffery Brandt, his parents, and his step-mother, Ruth Brandt.
