Dorothy V. Roberts

Dorothy V. Roberts, 93, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Fort Armstrong, Rock Island.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2016, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, with the Rev. Dr. Wilfred L. Karsten officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is serving the family.

The former Dorothy Virginia Hopkins was born August 28, 1923, in Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Barton) Hopkins. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines before marrying Marion Roberts on August 22, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He died January 28, 1994.

During the war, she worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, and then became a librarian for the Des Moines Library. She was an accountant for her husband's construction company, and later for W.F. Scott Decorating in Carbon Cliff.

Dorothy was extremely artistic, especially drawing, calligraphy, and painting. She was very active in the church, using her artistic ability to help the church with many projects over the years. Along with her church and faith, family was everything to her.

She is survived by three children, Craig (Marty) Roberts of Crescent City, Florida, Lynne (Carl Harms) Mefford Harms of Davenport, and Brian (Wanda) Roberts of Gold Canyon, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred (Erma) Hopkins, Jr. of Raymore, Missouri, and Robert Hopkins of Port Washington, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Marion; a son-in-law, Larry Mefford; and siblings, Richard and Jim Hopkins, Dick Middaugh, Barbara Brozek, and Katherine in infancy.
