Dorothy A. "Dottie" Gull, 45, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, in her home after a brief illness.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A prayer service will follow at 5 p.m. with Chaplain Jack Brown officiating. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund
The former Dorothy Ann Speakman was born February 14, 1970, in Dover, Delaware, to Robert Allen and Mary Ann (Chicosky) Speakman. She married Robert Gull, and they were later divorced. She was a hospice nurse for Genesis Hospice and Heartland Hospice. She was a selfless person, who put everyone else's needs before her own.
Dottie's was a ham radio operator, with the call sign KA3QCY, and was a member of the American Radio Relay League and various nursing organizations. She loved boating and all watersports, camping, and running.
Dottie is survived by her fiancée, Don Sturgell of Moline; her father and step-mother, Robert and Mary Speakman of Felton, Delaware; her mother, Mary Ann Chicosky of Millsboro, Delaware; three children, John Gull, Andrew Gull, and Lauren Gull, all of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Don's sons who were like sons to her, Drew Sturgell and his wife Ashley of North Carolina, and Cody Sturgell of Sugar Grove, Illinois; Her twin brother, Bobby Speakman of Felton; and grandparents, Sharon and Mel Hayes of Moline.
