Dorothy Dunham-Buker, 53, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in her residence.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Unitarian Church, 3707 Eastern Avenue, Davenport, Iowa, with The Reverend Roger Butts officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Aitutaki Elementary School Library in the Cook Islands.
Dorothy Lea Dunham was born September 23, 1954, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Grinnell and Marjorie (Johnston) Dunham. She received her B.S. and Masters degrees from the University of Iowa, and an Associate degree in the Nursing from Black Hawk College. She married Robert J,. Buker on December 22, 1995, in Rock Island. She was administrative assistant to her husband at Beaver Builders. She previously was a registered nurse for CADS, IIILC, and Genesis Medical Center.
She was a member of the Unitarian Church, Davenport. She had many hobbies and interests, including reading, snow skiing, swimming, scuba diving, music and the violin, and the love of learning in general. She loved animals, and traveled around the world with her family, including a trip to the Cook Islands three weeks ago. She was a kind and generous person who was loved by all who came in contact with her. She was most proud of her parenting and adopting their daughter Valentina from Russia and giving birth to their son Dominick.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert; two children, Valentina and Dominick; siblings, Lisle Dunham and Janet Dunham, both of Grinnell, Iowa, Arthur Dunham and his wife Collette of Hopkinton, Iowa, and Louisa Hisamoto of Fairbanks, Alaska; and a special friend, Kelly Carr of East Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents and a special aunt, Helen Johnston.
