Doris E. Coffey, 85, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Allure of Knox County, Galesburg, Illinois.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, at First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, with Rev. Tim Snart officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to the church.
The former Doris Elaine Grim was born January 14, 1939, in Brunswick, Maryland, the daughter of Miller and Anna (Reynolds) Grim. She graduated from East High School in Baltimore and went on to marry the love of her life, Arthur Coffey on January 10, 1958, in Baltimore. He died July 6, 2013.
Doris worked for Montgomery-Kone for over 24 years, retiring in 1997. She later worked for Ferguson Enterprises and Dillard’s.
She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in various activities and served as Deaconess. The things she cherished most on this Earth were: the Lord, her husband, and her children and grandchildren. She was always smiling, and could (and did) light up any room she walked into with her laugh, so much so that her grandchildren called her “laughing grandma”.
The world would be a much better place with more Doris Coffey’s in it.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Debra (Bill) Collins of Coal Valley, and Bonnie (Randy) Anderson of Alpha; her beloved grandchildren, Christina (Chris) Hoskins, Joshua (Elizabeth) Parks, Kimberly (Louis) Parks, Caleb (Madeline) Parks, Denise Randall, Phillip (Anne) Randall, Jacob Anderson, Kelly Anderson, and Stacey (Quinn) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Riley, Collin and Connor, Devin, Donovan and Jada, Karissa, Kaiana, Enrique and Elaina, Aidan, Kylee, Kayla and Kayden, Breeze, Brianna and Jeremiah, and Henry; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Linda) Grim of Cumberland, Maryland; and Barbara Myers, who was like a daughter to Doris. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art; a son, Daniel Patrick Coffey; two sisters, Pat Donahue and Rose Caldwell; and her great-grandson, Dante Parks.
