Donald W. Lindgren, 81, of Moline, died Thursday, February 2, 2006, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. Private burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to church or favorite charity. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.
Donald William Lindgren was born October 3, 1924, in Moline, the son of William R. and Elsie (Huth) Lindgren. He graduated form Augustana College and received his Masters Degree in Geology from the University of Wisconsin. He served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during WW II.
He married Mary Kay Frieden in 1947, in Washington, Iowa. He married Patricia Schneider in 1981, in Plymouth, Minnesota. She died in 1994. He married Lois Bergren Griffee Carlson on October 3, 1997, in Moline.
He was a geologist for various companies in the fields of mining and metallurgy for over 40 years. He was president of his own company, Lindgren Exploration Company, from 1959 to 1981, and continued doing consulting work until 1992. In addition, he was a director of several companies in his field. After retiring, he moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, where he was active in community improvements and activities.
He was active in many professional societies, was a Boy Scout leader, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, sailing, golf, traveling, and sports, both as a participant and a spectator, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Don is survived by his wife, Lois; a son and daughter-in-law, William D. and April Lindgren of Monticello, Minnesota; a daughter and son-in-law, Katharine and Joseph Bulicz of Minneapolis; a nephew, Mark Holden of California; step-children, Beth Ann Schrup of Moline, and Ted Griffee of Minneapolis; and step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew Schrup. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia.
