Donald L. Watson, 85, of Moline, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial of cremains will be in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline.
Donald Leroy Watson was born February 28, 1920, in Lewistown, Illinois, the son of Roy and Katie (Irwin) Watson. He married Dorothy Cline on June 6, 1943, in Burlington, Iowa. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was a printer at the Rock Island Arsenal for 28 years, retiring in 1983. He previously was employed at the former Desaulniers?s and Company.
Don was an active member of First Christian Church, Moline, where he was an elder and deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a former member of the American Legion. He enjoyed reading, bowling, golf, and Bridge.
Don is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Dorothy; a son, David Larry Watson of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Russell of Clearwater, Florida; and two grandsons, David and Marc Russell, both of Clearwater. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Keith Watson, and his daughter-in-law, Dianne Watson.
