Donald L. Carson, 79, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the burial. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Donald Lee Carson was born June 8, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to George and Helen Hartkemeyer Carson. He proudly served in the US Navy as a hospital corpsman for four years, and married Marlo Sellers on January 7, 1960, in Morrison, Illinois. He was employed by John Deere Plow Planter Works for 25 years, retiring as supervisor in 1991. He then worked as contractor at various Deere facilities for 10 years. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, loved American History and Reading, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and wrestling.
Don is survived by his wife, Marlo; four children and spouses, Cary and Celeste Carson of Gillett, Pennsylvania, Aaron Carson of Rock Island, Andrea Spainhower of Rock Island, and Lt. Col. (Ret) Adam and Deana Carson of Augusta, Georgia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Mary Carson and Jim and Susan Carson, all of Moline.
