Donald J. Coppens, 75, of Hampton, Illinois, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, in UnityPoint Heath - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 12:00 Noon Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Reverend Larry Conway officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. until funeral time Friday. Following the burial, friends are invited to join the family for a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Point. Memorials may be made to the Donald Coppens Memorial Fund for a memorial on the river.
Donald Joseph Coppens was born May 16, 1939, in Moline, to Camiel and Louise Maes Coppens. He was employed in purchasing at Sears Manufacturing, Davenport, retiring in 2002. He previously worked for International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island. He was a former 5th ward alderman for the City of Moline, a Trustee of the Hampton District Library Board, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. He had a summer home in Bagley, Wisconsin, for many years, where he enjoyed fishing and boating, and he looked forward to wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama, each year. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene; daughters and sons-in-law, LeAnn and Ryan Norris of Davenport, Iowa, and Dana and Tom Densberger of Moline; five grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Coppens of Moline; and Marlene's brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Brenda Loding of Bagley, Wisconsin.
