Donald C. Holmes

Donald C. Holmes, 83, of Orion, Illinois, died Sunday, August 6, 2023, at home.

Donald was born to Skinny and Hazel Holmes on August 24,1939.  He grew up on a farm in Missouri before relocating to Illinois, working for Aspland Tree Service.  Donald later became employed by Oscar Meyer, retiring in 2001.

Donald enjoyed fishing trips on the Rock River and going to Whiteys for shakes or malts with his kids.  He enjoyed playing pool, watching boxing, which he frequently did with his son Greg with whom he had an incredibly close bond.

Donald enjoyed helping others when he could and talking on the phone to his daughters and hearing about the grandkids and weather or anything else that could be thought of.

Donald is preceded in death by a sister Shirley, his father, and his mother.  Donald is survived by four children, Greg Holmes of East Moline, Illinois, Kelley Vanhoose of Kirksville, Missouri, Terri Fontaine of Laurium Michigan, and Kimberly Isham of Sherwood Arkansas; as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
