A luncheon will be held at the church after the funeral, and burial will then follow in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church.
Donald Clarence Youngberg was born in Moline on December 25, 1931, (a Christmas baby), to Clarence and Irene (Swanson) Youngberg. He attended grade school in Lynn Center, Illinois, and graduated from Orion High School in 1949. He served in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954 in the veterinary corps and as a meat inspector in Boston. He married Barbara Dyce on January 21, 1953, in Moline.
Returning from the service, he attended Augustana College, graduating in 1958, and worked part time at Midvale Dairy during his college years. He was employed by the US Army Weapons Command on the Rock Island Arsenal in finance and accounting for 31 years, retiring in 1991. He was then employed by Trimble Funeral Home for 16 years.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, American Scandinavian Society, and NARFE. In his retirement, he and Barb enjoyed Elder Hostels, trips to England and the Southwest, and most of all, spring time and fall wandering the back roads of Door County. They also enjoyed day-tripping which included stops at their favorite restaurants, especially Swedish pancakes in Rockford. Don played tennis into his late 70's, and enjoyed gardening and reading, looking forward to his favorite books by John Grisham and Tony Hillerman, and having afternoon coffee with his neighbor and friend.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Barbara; his daughter and son-in-law, Kirsten and Mark Passalino, and grandson, Mateo Passalino, all of Lake Forest, Illinois; his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Dick Halverson of Mesa, Arizona; and three nieces and a nephew.
